Language Center of the Humboldt University of Berlin

The Language Center is a central service facility of the Humboldt University with more than 65 years of expertise in the field of foreign language teaching and didactics. We offer students of all disciplines, employees and alumni high-quality, university-specific foreign and technical language training at various levels. Our range of services includes the classic canon of modern Western and Eastern European as well as "old" languages, ranges from Arabic and Chinese to courses in German sign language, includes courses that prepare for examinations and standardized language exams. The most important concern for us is to enable you to act actively in everyday, study and professional contexts, linguistically and culturally, safely and appropriately. To do this, we rely on communicative, participant-oriented didactic concepts, incorporate new media, the imparting of regional knowledge and strategies for autonomous learning into the teaching process. You can also expand your skills independently in an excellently equipped media library. In addition, we advise you on all questions relating to language learning, we arrange and supervise intensive language course trips to Belarus and you can take language proficiency tests with us. Language skills represent a necessary interdisciplinary key qualification for academics in an international environment, especially in today's world. We want to support you in developing them and at the same time adequately prepare you for stays abroad. You should therefore plan your foreign language studies in good time in parallel with your specialist studies.
