Beijing YATAI Education Development Institute

Beijing University of Physical Education whose original name was Beijing Institute of Physical Education and Central Institute of physical Education. Founded on Nov.1, 1953, is one of the major Universities of higher learning in China. The main task of the University is to train highly-qualified physical education teachers, sports coaches, sports science researchers, physical education administrative personnel, social physical education instructors and other people with professional skills of physical education. Beijing University of Physical Education, located in a western suburb of Beijing, is a close neighbor of "Yuan Ming Yuan Site Park". Having a beautiful scenery in the shadows of the flourish trees, the campus occupies and area of 70 hectares, with a building area of 160,000 square meters. The University has complete facilities for teaching, training and scientific research. It has totally 15 indoor training Gyms for track and field, swimming, ball games, gymnastics, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics and over 60 outdoor courts and fields, among which the sports complex with the beauty of construction and 3000 seats for audiences was once the boxing competition building in the 11th Asian Games and now it is also the planned future competition building in the International Games. Attached to the University, there is a scientific research center, an audio-visual education center, a library, and sports information center which create for the University a good academic environment. With comparatively-complete subjects, the university is the largest of Institutes of Physical education in China. At the present, it includes seven Departments and 24 teaching sections with a faculty of comparatively high academic level, among whom are 197 professors and associate professors and 202 instructors. The University has been authorized to award the Doctoral degree on 3 Majors and to award the Master's degree on 8 subjects. Since its foundation, the University has attached great importance to the combination of teaching, training and scientific research. Because a "strict and realistic" educational policy has been carried out all through teaching, it has trained a great number of highly-qualified talents of physical education, and more than 20,000 students. In formal national competitions, ther have been altogether 240 students who got the championship, while in formal international competitions, 14 students got the championship with 3 breaking the Asian records. The university attaches great importance to academic exchanges with other coutries. By 1993, it has established intercollegiate relations with 12 universities and colleges of Japan, the United States, Germany, Australia, Canada, Russia and Korea. It also has friendly ties with the Sports Association of the City Shizoka in Japan. The University has up to 1993 trained over 200 international students in its short-term training programs. There were about 100 international student at the university in 1993.
