The College of Applied Sciences Nizwa is a leading college in higher education. It aims to achieve progress in the areas of science, culture and thought, and works to enrich human civilization, and expand the horizons of human knowledge, and contribute to the achievement of economic and social development in the Sultanate of Oman.
The College is under the supervision of the Directorate General of the Colleges of Applied Sciences in the Ministry of Higher Education, which oversees the six Colleges that are distributed to a number of Wilayats in the Sultanate in: Salalah, Rustaq, Sohar, Sur, Ibri, and Nizwa.The College is located in Al Dakhiliya Governorate in the Wilayat of Nizwa, around170 km away from Muscat Governorate.
The College was originally established in the academic year 1990/1991 as an Intermediate Two-Year Teacher Training College offering a diploma in teaching and it was governed by the Ministry of Education. In the academic year 1994/1995, the college started offering bachelor degrees in education and its supervision was transferred to the Ministry of Higher Education as per the Royal Decree No. 42/95. The first cohort of bachelor degree students graduated in the academic year 97/1998. In 2007, five Colleges of Education in Nizwa, Sur, Sohar, Ibri, and Salalah were transformed to Colleges of Applied Sciences as per The Royal Decree No. 62/2007- Executive By Law of Royal Decree 62/2007 Regulating the Colleges of Applied Sciences .
The College of Applied Sciences at Nizwa awards bachelor degree in three programs, namely:
1 – Mass Communication Program in the following majors: - Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, Media Management and Advertising.
2 –Design Program in the following majors: - Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, and Interior Design.
3 - Business Administration Program in the following majors: Business Administration major Accounting and Tourism Administration.
